Flexible, sustainable and safe drainage solutions for Leeds Arena

The Leeds Arena, when completed, will be a 13,500 capacity entertainment focussed arena, and the first in the United Kingdom to have a fan-shaped orientation. Situated in the Northern Quarter of Leeds city centre, the Arena is being built on the former Claypit Lane Council car park and land formerly owned by Leeds Metropolitan University whose building on the site was cleared in 2009. Construction of the Arena has come on at a significant pace since it started in May 2011.

Stainless steel drainage solutions manufacturer, BLUCHER® UK Ltd, have supplied the drains and channels for this important project. Based in Tadcaster, just North of Leeds, BLUCHER® have supplied over 70 drains from their adaptable range of floor drains for the concourse, plant room and kitchen areas. The unique range of stainless steel drains from BLUCHER UK Ltd were chosen because of their suitability for installation as one style of lower part into the floor and for the fit out of the drain with suitable grates from the wide range on offer from BLUCHER UK Ltd at a later date.

BLUCHER® also supplied BLUCHER® EuroPipe, their push fit stainless steel drainage pipework system which was installed in the kitchen and conference areas.  BLUCHER® EuroPipe was specified over other metallic or plastic systems for two specific reasons,  one due to the potential heat of the waste to be drained through the pipework and the other regarding the fire safety of the exposed pipework in general.   BLUCHER® EuroPipe is a perfect solution for both requirements. It can easily cope with temperatures up to 100deg C and out performs any metallic or plastic system on the market to  in the event of a fire, being the only system with an A1 fire rating.

Blyth Davies, Project Engineer for Rotary Yorkshire Ltd, had this to say about the use of both BLUCHER EuroPipe and BLUCHER Drains on the Arena project

“On Leeds Arena it was essential we use products which offer both quality and an ease of installation allowing labour time to be reduced. This along with good service and cost in a competitive market lead us to use Blucher on all hospitality drainage throughout the project”

With an anticipated opening sometime in early 2013 The Leeds Arena will, together with Leeds tallest building  Plaza Corner which is adjacent and also being drained by BLUCHER products, give BLUCHER® drainage systems its own corner of Leeds.
